ANTIQUE FRENCH COUNTRY COMPTOISE CLOCK c1890
This super
antique French rustic comptoise clock dating from around 1890
has a pine case which
has been given a scumble varnish finish with handpainted vines,
grapes, florals and foliage to the clock door and
base. The enamel face is inscribed 'Qualite Superior - Parlange
Freres a Combourg'. The pressed brass
surround depicts an urn overflowing with grapes and flowers and
the pressed brass pendulum is fabulously
decorated with flowers and sheaves of wheat painted in muted colours
of pink, blue and white and both the
brass surround and pendulum are in very good condition.
The
mechanism appears clean and complete, it has its original winding
key and though we have not tried to
get it to work feel confident that it would take only the minimum
amount of work to do so - the cast iron
weights require attaching to the cords. There is no evidence of
woodworm past or present but it has been
treated by us as a precaution.
It measures 93 inches (236cms) tall x maximum width 20 inches
(51cms).
